North Lanarkshire provost Jim Robertson was joined by veterans, military personnel, members of the emergency services, council leader Jim McCabe, Deputy Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Louis Munn and local people at the ceremony on Monday.
Provost Robertson said: “Our Armed Forces play a vital role in protecting our way of life and providing safety and security in other parts of the world.
“Armed Forces Day gives us an opportunity to show our support for the men and women of the forces, and is an important occasion for their families, veterans and local people.
“In North Lanarkshire, we are proud to support our armed personnel past, present and future.”
Armed Forces Day aims to increase public support and awareness about the contribution made on behalf of the nation by the Armed Forces, with special events being held throughout the UK on Saturday.
On Saturday at 10am, George Square in Glasgow, home to the city’s Cenotaph, will host a commemorative event including a march past and parade with representatives present from all the services, regulars and reserves, veterans groups and cadets.
